How the date of retirement is calculated
In government service you retire on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which you reach the retirement age. If you were born on the 1st of a month, you retire on the last day of the previous month (Fundamental Rule 56 and the state service rules modelled on it).
Example: born on 15 June 1966, with a retirement age of 60, you retire on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. Born on 1 July 1966, you retire on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, because you reach 60 on Tue, 30 Jun 2026.
Retirement age in AP, Telangana and central government
Andhra Pradesh government employees retire at 62, Telangana government employees at 61 and central government employees at 60. Pick your employer and the calculator applies its age.

Retirement date by date of birth, not date of joining
The retirement date depends only on your date of birth and the retirement age: the date of joining does not move it. Add the date of joining to see the total service you will have at retirement, both the first and the last day counted.
Example: born on Monday, 15 June 1970 and joined Andhra Pradesh government service on Friday, 1 September 1995, you retire at 62 on Wednesday, 30 June 2032 with 36 years, 10 months of service.
Good to know
- Use the date of birth in your service register; corrections are rarely allowed late in service.
- Retirement ages differ by employer and change by government order: if yours is not listed or has been changed, pick "Other" and type the age.
- In a private job the employer's service rules or appointment letter set the retirement age: pick "Other" and type it. The EPF pension (EPS) starts at 58; see the EPF calculator.

Why the day before the birthday?
By law a person completes an age on the day before the birthday. That is why someone born on the 1st completes the age in the previous month and retires at its end.
What does date of superannuation mean?
It is the date you retire on reaching the retirement age: the last day of the month in which you reach it. Service records and pension papers call it the date of superannuation.
