How to calculate the age difference between two people
Count from the earlier date of birth to the later one, the same way as an age: whole years, then whole months, then days. The person with the earlier date of birth is the older one.
Example: between Thursday, 12 April 1990 and Thursday, 3 November 1994 the age gap is 4 years, 6 months, 22 days: 54 months, 238 weeks or 1,666 days.
Age difference for marriage
Enter the bride's and the groom's dates of birth, as in their certificates: the gap shows in years, months and days, with who is older and both ages today. It comes out the same whichever date you enter first.
Questions
Does the age gap change as we grow older?
No. The gap in years, months and days stays the same for life; only each person's age changes.
Can I find the age difference from two ages?
Only roughly. Someone who is 30 and someone who is 26 can be anything from just over 3 to just under 5 years apart, depending on their birthdays. Both dates of birth give the exact gap.
Can I use it for anything other than people?
Yes: it gives the exact gap between any two dates, such as two anniversaries or the start of two jobs. For the days alone, with weekdays and working days, use days between dates.
