How to use the online calculator

Tap or type a sum the way you would write it. The answer shows as you type; = keeps it in the history.

  • ( ) opens a bracket, or closes one when that would complete it.
  • ⌫ deletes the last key, AC clears everything.
  • After =, an operator carries on from the answer; a digit starts a new sum. Ans is the last answer.
  • Need a square root, powers or sin and log? Switch to Scientific on the screen.

Percent on the calculator: add GST or take off a discount

% works as on a shop calculator: 1,200 + 18% = 1,416 and 2,500 − 20% = 2,000. Anywhere else 15% is 0.15, so 200 × 15% = 30.

Example: a ₹1,200 bill plus 18% GST is 1200 + 18% = 1,416; then × 3 for three of them = 4,248. For GST split into CGST and SGST, or a sale with two discounts, the GST and discount calculators show each step.

History with a total

Each answer you keep with = goes into the history with a tick box. The total and the average of the ticked answers show under the list, so a list of amounts adds up without typing it again; "Use" puts the total back in the calculator.

On a computer keyboard

  • Digits and ., then + - * / % and brackets.
  • Enter or = for the answer, Backspace to delete, Esc to clear.
  • Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac) pastes a number or a sum copied from elsewhere: 1,00,000 reads as 100000, and 12 x 4 as 12 × 4. Anything that is not a number or a sum is refused.

Questions

Why is 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 and not 20?

Multiplication comes before addition (BODMAS): 3 × 4 = 12, plus 2 is 14. For 20, use brackets: (2 + 3) × 4.

Are my calculations saved or sent anywhere?
