How is crop loan interest calculated?

As simple interest, on the amount drawn for the months it is out. Under the government's interest subvention scheme (2025-26), banks give short-term crop loans on a Kisan Credit Card at 7% a year, on loans up to ₹3 lakh (up to ₹2 lakh when the loan is only for animal husbandry or fisheries), for at most a year. Repay by the due date and another 3% comes back to you, so the loan costs 4% a year: ₹1 lakh for a year is ₹4,000.

Interest = loan × 7% × months ÷ 12 − (on time: loan × 3% × months ÷ 12)

Example: ₹2,00,000 for a year, repaid on time: ₹14,000 at 7%, less ₹6,000 back, so ₹8,000. Repaid three months late at a 9% bank rate: ₹18,500, more than 2 times as much.

Crop loan interest rate in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The same as across India: 7% a year, or 4% when repaid by the due date, on KCC crop loans up to ₹3 lakh from public sector, private, regional rural and cooperative banks. Above the limit, and after the due date, each bank charges its own rate. A state may pay the rest for farmers who repay on time, making the loan interest-free: Andhra Pradesh's YSR Sunna Vaddi did so in 2019–24 on loans up to ₹1 lakh. Ask your bank or the agriculture office whether a state scheme applies now, and enter its limit above.

Crop loan interest on ₹50,000 to ₹3 lakh

For a year, at the scheme's rates and a bank rate of 9% once the loan is late (type your bank's rate above):

Crop loan Repaid on time (4%) 3 months late6 months late
₹50,000 ₹2,000 ₹4,625₹5,750
₹1 lakh ₹4,000 ₹9,250₹11,500
₹2 lakh ₹8,000 ₹18,500₹23,000
₹3 lakh ₹12,000 ₹27,750₹34,500

Good to know

  • Above ₹3 lakh the bank charges its own rate on the extra: ₹5,00,000 for a year on time at 9% costs ₹30,000 (₹12,000 on the first ₹3 lakh, ₹18,000 on the rest).
  • Late, the 3% is lost and the bank's own rate runs from the due date; an overdue loan also makes the next one harder to get. Repaying, or renewing with the bank, by the due date keeps the 4% rate.
  • Crop loans are not compounded before the due date: interest is simple, on the amount drawn, for the days it is out.
  • Pledging gold for a farm loan instead? The gold loan calculator works out its interest, monthly or at the end.

Questions

Who can get a crop loan at 7%?

Farmers, tenant farmers, oral lessees and self-help or joint liability groups of farmers, through a Kisan Credit Card from a bank, regional rural bank or cooperative bank. The bank sets the limit from the crop, the land and the scale of finance for your district.

What is the KCC loan limit per acre?

It is not one figure: the bank works it out from the district's scale of finance for each crop (fixed every year by the district level technical committee) and the acres you grow it on. Ask your branch for the season's scale; the calculator takes the amount sanctioned.

Is the 4% rate automatic?

The bank charges 7%; the 3% for paying on time is credited after you repay by the due date. The scheme is renewed by the government each year, so check the current terms with your branch.
