A gunta is 121 square yards (gajam), 1,089 square feet or 2.5 cents; 10 guntas are 1,210 gajam.
Gajam to square feet
A gajam (square yard) is 9 square feet: a square 3 feet a side. As a length, a gaj (yard) is 3 feet. A 200-gajam plot is 1,800 sq ft.

Good to know
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh mostly measures farmland in acres and cents; Telangana in acres and guntas (kuntas).
- Telangana's land records write the extent as acres and guntas: "Ac 2-20" or "2.20" is 2 acres 20 guntas, which is 2.5 acres, not 2.2. Choose "Acres + guntas" (or "Acres + cents" for a record in cents) and type the two numbers in their own boxes.
- House plots are sold in square yards (gajam) and flats in square feet. A gajam and a square yard are the same: 9 sq ft.
- Old documents can use local measures: check the survey number's record (Adangal or Pahani) for the official extent.
- Only the sides of a plot known? The land area calculator works out its area from them, in gajam, cents and acres.
Questions
How many square yards is a 30 × 40 plot?
30 ft × 40 ft = 1,200 sq ft, ÷ 9 = 133.33 square yards (gajam), or about 2.75 cents.
Is a gunta the same as a cent?
No: a gunta (1,089 sq ft) is 2.5 cents (435.6 sq ft each). 40 guntas or 100 cents make an acre.
How many ankanams in a cent?
About 6.05: an ankanam is 72 sq ft (8 gajam) and a cent 435.6 sq ft.
