How to calculate the gold price with making charges and GST

Multiply the weight by the day's rate for its purity, add the wastage and making charges, then 3% GST on the whole, and the hallmarking fee for each piece.

Price = gold (weight × rate) + wastage + making charges + stones + GST + hallmarking

Example: a 10-gram 22K chain at ₹1,31,950 for 10 grams (Hyderabad, 29 October 2026) with 10% making charges: gold ₹1,31,950, making ₹13,195, GST ₹4,354 and ₹75 for hallmarking the piece: ₹1,49,574 in all, ₹14,957 a gram. Some jewellers add a wastage (VA) % as well, or instead of making charges.

Gold price of 1 gram, 1 sovereign, 10 grams and 1 tola

At Hyderabad's rates on 29 October 2026, 10 grams of 22K gold is ₹1,31,950 and 1 sovereign (8 grams) ₹1,05,560: the gold alone. The last column is a 22K jewel of that weight with 10% making charges, GST and one piece's hallmarking.

Making charges: how much, and how to find them in a bill

Making charges are a % of the gold's value or ₹ a gram, and they are where jewellers differ most, with the wastage: compare them, not only the gold rate.

• Know only the final price? Choose "Work out: Making charges" and type the rate, the weight, any stones and the price on the bill: the rest, less GST, is the making charges (with the wastage, unless you enter it).
• When you sell or exchange, you get the gold's value, not the wastage or making.

GST on gold jewellery

GST is 3% of the jewel's whole value, making charges included, whether the bill shows them apart or not. 5% is only for job work: a goldsmith making a jewel from your own gold charges the making and 5% on it, with no gold sold and no GST on the gold.

22K, 24K and 18K, and the hallmark

• 24K is 99.9% gold, 22K 91.6% and 18K 75%. Jewellery is usually 22K; check for the BIS hallmark and its HUID code on every piece.
• Hallmarking costs the jeweller ₹75 a piece, whatever it weighs, from 14 September 2026 (it was ₹45); jewellers usually add it to the bill, and some add GST on it. It is not part of the gold's value, so it is left out when the calculator works out the making charges from a price.

ఆభరణం ధర = బరువు × ఆ రోజు గ్రాము ధర + తరుగు + తయారీ చార్జీలు + 3% జీఎస్టీ + హాల్‌మార్కింగ్ ఫీజు (ఒక్కో ఆభరణానికి ₹75).
