How it works

  1. Choose the form and what you are uploading (photo, signature, thumb impression). If yours is not in the list, choose Custom size, at the top.
  2. Choose a picture from your gallery or take one. Drag it so your face sits in the oval, and zoom with two fingers or the slider.
  3. Download the JPG. It has the form's exact pixels, and its file size is checked against the form's limits.

Auto-frame and the photo check

For a photo, Auto-frame finds your face and places it in the oval the way your form's rule asks: UPSC, NEET and JEE (Main) want the face to fill most of the photo (at least three quarters for UPSC, 80% for NEET and JEE), the others a passport-style photo with space above the head. It also straightens a head that clearly leans. It only frames the photo, as you would by dragging: nothing in the picture is changed, and the file is still exactly the form's pixels and within its KB.

The photo check under the picture then looks at it the way the form's checker would: sharp, a plain background (white for the forms that ask for white), enough pixels, and after Auto-frame the head's size, place and level and even light on your face. A green tick passes; an amber one says what to do. It is a guide: the notification's rules come first. The face finder downloads once, the first time you tap Auto-frame (from jsDelivr and Google, as Background does); your photo is never sent.

Adjust the picture, without changing you

Beside the picture: Auto fix balances dull light and takes out a yellow or blue tint; Fine-tune straightens a tilted photo or signature and sets brightness, contrast, warmth and sharpness; hold Compare to see the original. Only light, colour, sharpness and straightness change, as a camera's own settings would: nothing smooths or reshapes a face, because application forms reject retouched photos. To make a file smaller, you can also crop it: square, 3 : 4 or 4 : 3.

Background replaces what is behind you with white, light blue or light grey: the phone finds you in the photo (the first time it downloads the cut-out tool, about 4 MB, from jsDelivr and Google; only that download request goes to them, never your photo). Some forms, the passport and UPSC among them, do not accept edited photos: use a new background only where the form allows it. A photo taken against a plain light wall is always safest.

Everything happens in your browser: the picture is never uploaded to ap7am or anywhere else, and it is gone when you close the page.

Rules change with each notification. If yours gives a different size, choose Custom size and type the pixels and KB it asks for.

For a photo that passes

  • A recent photo, face straight to the camera, both ears visible, in even daylight with a plain light wall behind.
  • The face should fill most of the oval: forms reject photos where the face is too small or cut off.
  • No caps or dark glasses (spectacles are fine if there is no glare), unless the form says otherwise.
  • Some forms (APPSC, for one) want your name and the date the photo was taken printed on it: the tick box under the photo does that, and is ticked for those forms.
  • UPSC, IBPS, SBI and JEE (Main) also take a live photo while you apply. SSC and railway (RRB) forms take only a live photo, so there is no photo to upload for them (their signature is in the list).

Photo and signature on one sheet (TG Police, AP TET, AP DSC)

Paste your passport photo on plain white paper, sign below it in black ink, and photograph only that part, straight from above. Choose the form: the tool keeps the picture's shape and brings the file within the form's KB.

For a signature or thumb impression

  • Sign in black or dark blue ink on plain white paper, larger than usual, and photograph it from straight above in good light.
  • Keep "Make the paper white" ticked: it removes the grey of the paper and the shadow of your phone.
  • Frame only the signature, with a little white around it. Do not sign in capital letters if the form forbids it.

Questions

Why does my computer show a slightly different KB?

Some portals count a KB as 1,000 bytes and others as 1,024. The file is made to pass both ways: under the largest size counted the strict way, and over the smallest counted the other way.

The form wants at least 20 KB, but my file was smaller. What happened?

A small, clean picture can need fewer bytes than the form's minimum even at the best quality. The tool then adds an empty note inside the file (a JPEG comment) to reach the minimum. The picture is exactly the same; portals only check the size.

The portal still says "invalid dimensions" or "invalid file". What now?

Check the size in your notification: a new notification can change it. Choose Custom size and type its pixels and KB. The file is always a JPG; if a portal asks for PNG or PDF, this tool is not the right one.

Is my photo stored or uploaded?

No. The resizing runs on your phone or computer, in the browser. Nothing about the picture is sent to ap7am or anyone else.
