How to change Anu text into Unicode
- Open the document in Word or PageMaker, select the text (Ctrl + A for all of it) and copy it.
- Paste it into the box. The Unicode Telugu appears under it as you paste.
- If the document mixes fonts, they are listed under the box: Anu fonts are ticked and converted, English ones are kept as they are. Tick or untick to change that.
- Copy the Unicode, send it on WhatsApp, or download it as a .txt file.
Anu fonts (typed with Anu Script Manager) draw Telugu letters in the places of English letters, so a document typed
in them shows Telugu only while it is set in the font. Copied anywhere else (a website, WhatsApp, Gmail, a search
box) it shows English letters and signs: కృష్ణ typed in Anu is H’$+’â
underneath. Unicode Telugu is Telugu everywhere, on every phone, and is what search engines read.
Unicode to Anu, for PageMaker and old Word files
Choose Unicode → Anu, paste Unicode Telugu (from a website, WhatsApp or a Google document) and copy the result. Paste it into PageMaker, CorelDRAW or Word and set it in your Anu font; Download .txt gives the same text as a file to place. English words have no Anu form: set them in an English font. To type Telugu in the first place, use Telugu Typing.
How the conversion works
An Anu letter is made of pieces: the consonant's body, its తలకట్టు, the vowel sign, the వత్తు. Some pieces are typed before the consonant they belong to, as they are drawn. The converter reads the pieces and writes them in Unicode's order, using SIL International's mapping for Anu fonts (made for the Anu font AnupamaMedium) with ap7am's corrections. Sent from Unicode to Anu and back, 59,997 of ap7am's 60,000 most used Telugu words come back unchanged.
Words with ఘ, and Anu fonts that differ from AnupamaMedium, may need a check: a piece the converter does not know shows as �, never as a guess, and the converter says how many there are.
Questions
Is my document uploaded?
No. The text is converted in your browser; nothing you paste is sent to ap7am or anywhere else, or kept.
Why did English words turn into Telugu letters?
Text pasted from somewhere that does not say its font (Notepad, a PDF) is all read as Anu. Paste from Word instead, where each word keeps its font, or retype the English words in the result.
Can I convert a whole Word file?
Open it in Word, select all (Ctrl + A), copy and paste it here. A .txt file saved from an Anu document opens directly with Open a .txt file.
Does it change Telugu that is already in Unicode?
No. Unicode Telugu in what you paste is kept as it is; only the Anu text is converted.
