CM Chandrababu conducts second review on Blue Plan for Capital City of Amaravati
Vijayawada, Oct.5: As part of the weekly review of Amaravati capital city development on every Wednesday, C.M. has conducted the second review meeting today on Blue plan for Capital City which includes the Flood protection measures, kondaveeti vaagu discharge management, beautification of Krishna River front and protection and sustainable use of Islands.
Amaravati is being developed as a blue and green city. The master plan for Amaravati has allocated about 30% of the land use for the blue and green plan. This is substantial percentage reserve for the blue and green plan when compared to many cities across the globe. The plan envisages to naturally adopt existing water bodies including tanks and river Krishna seamlessly duly protecting their regime.
The Blue plan has taken into account the flood history of over 100 years. CM directed that all possible measures and international best practices shall be employed in the implementation of the blue plan. As part of the blue plan, CM has advised visualizing the river Krishna as part and parcel of two cities, i.e., Vijayawada and the future city Amaravati thereby giving a majestic backdrop to the entire region.
Rob Steijn, a world renowned Blue Consultant from Arcadis, Netherlands, with experience of working in more than 80 countries made a detailed presentation regarding the progress made so far on the blue plan for Amaravati. A discussion on the navigable canals also has been presented. CM has directed the consultants to preserve the natural resources and suggested to consider measures for optimal use benefitting not only Amaravati but also the surrounding region making use of even the storm water by strengthening existing canal network like Krishna western Delta canal and Guntur canal.
CM has directed the officials of CCDMC, CRDA, Revenue, Irrigation Dept, Environment and Forest, Inland Water Ways Authority of India to work in coordination to achieve best results in the implementation of the blue plan.
CM reiterated his vision and commitment to building safe, secure, happy, peaceful and prosperous Amaravati for the present and future generations. The blue plan shall also help ensure providing recreation space as well as soothing atmosphere to the City, meet navigation requirements.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Municipal Administration, P. Narayana, Lakshmi Parthasarathi, Chairman, CCDMC, Satish Chandra, Principal Secy. to C.M., G. Sai Prasad, Principal. Secy. to C.M., Ajay Jain, Principal Secy MA&UD ( CRDA) and other officials.
