Repair City Roads Immediately: KTR Tells GHMC

Hyderabad, Sept.20:: Municipal Administration Minister K Tarakarama Rao today directed the GHMC and other officials to take up on a war-footing the road repair works. At a high-level meeting with GHMC, Metro Rail, HMWS&SB, TSIIC and other officials, KTR reviewed the bad condition of the roads. He sought immediate steps to repair the roads and alerted the civic staff to be cautious as more rains are expected for a couple of days. Though the government was taking up various development programs, the bad condition of the roads are fetching bad name to the government, he deplored. KTR said an expert committee for recommendations on the proper maintenance of the roads would be formed. This committee will coordinate with the civic staff, he said and asked to form 150 teams --- one for each division in the twin cities with needed machinery enabling them to plunge into swift action for road repairs. The minister also asked the engineering staff of the civic body to come up with short-term, middle-term and long-term plans to maintain the roads without any potholes. With long-term objective, priority must be given for quality roads and continuous monitoring in coordination with other departments, the minister said. The engineering staff informed that they would repair all the roads in a week. Besides the civic staff, staff of Metro Rail, Roads & Buildings Department should take up repair works under their purview, he added.
