DS pats civic authorities for effectively tackling rain havoc
Hyderabad, Sept.25: Advisor to Telangana Government and MP Dharmapuri Srinivas has appreciated the efforts of civic authorities in tackling the situation arising in the wake of heavy rains that lashed several parts and inundated various colonies and low-lying areas of the city.
Due to perfect co-ordination among the GHMC, HMWS&SB, Police, NDRF, Army and other Government agencies, the officials could tackle the grim situation effectively in the water logged areas, Srinivas said. Accompanied by the Mayor and GHMC Commissioner, Srinivas visited the GHMC Control Room and expressed satisfaction and applauded the officials for their united efforts in tackling the situation effectively.
The agencies utilized the technology by closely monitoring the situation by CC cameras with the help of Police department and getting updated information from the Met. Department from time to time and instructing the officials concerned for further action, he added. The MP also said the Chief Minister was very serious about the demolition of illegal structures and encroachments all along the nalas in the city.
Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said GHMC Health wing was taking various steps to check water-borne diseases and appealed to the citizens not enter their houses until the premises become dry, after the water drained out in the inundated areas as there was a chance of health being affected with diseases.
Responding to a question from the media, GHMC Commissioner Dr. Janardhan Reddy said the GHMC would take up the filling of potholes and repair of roads on schools and office-going areas on a priority basis and on other roads later. The GHMC has identified 3,700 potholes, men and logistics are ready to take up the work immediately if no further rain occurs, he added. The Commissioner also advised the citizens to drink boiled water and dispose of kitchen waste immediately as it would spread diseases.
