GHMC Alerts People Living in Low Laying Areas
Hyderabad, Sept. 21: The water level in Hussian Sagar Lake has reached to danger level due to heavy rains lashing the Hyderabad city for the last two days. The flood water was reaching to Hussain Sagar in a big way. The officials were releasing the water from the lake.
The GHMC officials asked the people living in low laying areas to stay alert. The GHMC Commissioner Dr. Janardhan Reddy directed the officials to take up relief works on a war path. He directed the people living in areas—Ashok Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Indira Park and other low laying places to be alert as there was a chance to hit the city more rains.
The GHMC made the Monsoon Staff and Disaster Management staff to face any untoward situation due to heavy rains. The rain occurred through out Tuesday night.
Heavy flood water through Nalas reaching to Hussain Sagar lake and the water levels increased to the danger level. The officials have said that about 4,000 cusecs of water reaching to Hussain Sagar and the officials were releasing 1500 cusecs of water. The officials issued a warning to the people living in Gandhi Nagar, Domalguda, Ambedkar Nagar, Arundhati Nagar, Subash Chandrabose Nagar, Amber Patel Nagar to stay alert.
The present water level in Hussain Sagar was 513.57 meters and inflow was 4,000 cuses and out flow was 2,000 cusecs, the officials said. They said that the water level in the lake was increasing 20 centimeters per hour. The officials were releasing the lake water to down as Begumpet, Prashant Nagar were submerged in lake water. In the process, there was a chance to increase the water flow in the Chikkadpally and Mallakunta Nalas. Already Begumpet, Prakash Nagar and Mohammedguda bridges were inundated in the water.
GHMC Commissioner said that there was no problem with the release of Hussain Sagar water. He asked the people and vehiculars to come on to the roads only if they had important work.
He also urged the people living in old buildings to vacate them immediately. They also asked the people living in hill areas to vacate immediately as there was a chance that the hills may slip down.
The roads at Miyapur, Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar and at many places were looking like tanks. At several places the water reached to cellars of the apartments. The Miyapur tank was breached with the heavy inflows.
