Another victim of college ragging

Anantapur/Hyderabad, July 31: Even before people forget Rishiteswari's suicide, another student became victim to ragging. Madhuvardhan Reddy (16) of Gandikota Varipalli village, Obuladevapuram Cheruvu mandal, Anantapur district committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday. In the words of Madhu's father, Madhu got good percentage in SSC and representatives of Nellore Sri Gayatri educational institution lured him to join Inter first year in their college for lesser fee. A few senior students harassed Madhu, who was staying in the college's hostel. Some senior students beat Madhu by covering him in a blanket. With severe injuries on his face, Madhu complained to the management but there was no use. He came home on July 12 on home-sick vacation. He refused to return to the college and told his father about the incident. Ragging continued even after his father complained to the management. Madhu told his father stubbornly that he will not go to the hostel until his attackers were expelled from the hostel. He came back home. Meanwhile, college staff spoke with his father over phone and later with Madhu also on Thursday evening. After that Madhu went out and didn't returned in the night. On Friday morning, Madhu father came to know that his bike was parked near a well. He went there only to see his son hanging dead from a tree in the garden. He said his son committed suicide after talking with the college management over phone. Police and revenue staff booked a case and investigation is on.
