Karnataka: Bengaluru was thrown into chaos for two consecutive days as unseasonal heavy rainfall wreaked havoc throughout the city. The Nihan Jewellery Shop, situated at 9th Cross in Malleswaram, bore the brunt of the calamity, with gold ornaments worth crores of rupees being swept away by the raging floodwaters. The sudden deluge, accompanied by a deluge of garbage, caught the shop staff off guard, preventing them from closing the shutters in time. The shop owner, Priya, has accused nearby construction work as the primary cause of the devastating loss. "The gold jewellery in the shop is soaked. Despite contacting the corporation for assistance, our pleas fell on deaf ears. We have incurred a staggering 80% loss, equivalent to approximately Rs 2 crore, as our precious jewellery was washed away in the relentless rain," lamented Priya.
