Krishna Pushkarams start on August 12

Krishna Pushkarams will begin in Telangana at the sunrise of August 12. This is according to the advice of the Commissioner of Endowments given to the Telangana government. A majority of the pandits are of the view that August 12 is the date for the start of the pushkarams. The Pushkaram are observed for a period of 12 days from the time of entry of Jupiter into Virgo (Kanya rasi). Pushkaram has been an age-old practice in southern states Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. The pushkarams occur once in 12 years for the major rivers. A controversy has arisen over the Krishna Pushkarams in vijayawada where there is a confluence of the Godavari waters in the krishna under the Pattiseema project. As a result the Krishna water mixes with the Godavari waters. So it is not strictly Krishna Pushkarams in Vijayawada.
