Governor invites Jayalalithaa to form govt in TN
Chennai, May 22: Governor of Tamil Nadu Konijeti Rosaiah today invited AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa to form a new government. Earlier, the Governor had accepted the resignation of O. Panneerselvam.
Panneerselvam had served as chief minister for almost seven months after Jayalalithaa had to demit office after a court found her guilty in the DA case.
A statement from the Governor's office said, "The Governor of Tamil Nadu has invited Selvi (Ms) J Jayalalithaa to form the Ministry at the earliest and requested her to send the list of persons to be appointed as Ministers with portfolios."
Earlier today, AIADMK legislature party meeting was held at the party’s headquarters. During the meeting, all the AIADMK MLAs unanimously elected Jayalalithaa as leader of the party.
Jayalalithaa will make her first public appearance today when she will garland the statues of former chief ministers CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and Dravidian icon Periyar.
Jayalalithaa is likely to be sworn in on Saturday.
