Today, in response to the Opposition's concerns about violence against women in Manipur, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman brought up a past incident involving Tamil Nadu's former Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa. Sitharaman stressed that all violence against women, whether in Manipur, Rajasthan, or Delhi, should be addressed seriously and without political bias. She reminded everyone of a 1989 event in the Tamil Nadu assembly when Jayalalithaa's saree was disrespected. "Despite being mocked by DMK members back then, Jayalalithaa vowed to return to the assembly only as the chief minister. She achieved that goal in just two years," Sitharaman noted.
