Kerala: Former Kerala Chief Minister and Congress veteran, Oommen Chandy, passed away at the age of 80 in Bengaluru early on Tuesday morning. The news of his demise was shared on Facebook by his son, Congress leader Chandy Oommen, at 4.30 am, who wrote, "Appa has passed away." Oommen Chandy had been facing health issues since 2019 and had undergone treatment at Berlin's Charite Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram's NIMS Medicity, and Bengaluru's Health Care Global Enterprises over the past year. Having dedicated over five decades to his political career, Chandy achieved a significant milestone in 2022, becoming the longest-serving member of the Kerala Assembly by representing his home constituency, Puthupally, for an impressive 18,728 days. He held the position of Kerala's Chief Minister for two terms, serving from 2004 to 2006 and then from 2011 to 2016.
