Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan has approved compensation for residents affected by the expansion of Gannavaram airport. The CM has promised to clear the outstanding amount of Rs 44 crore within the next month, bringing much-needed relief to those who have been fighting for compensation for the past seven years. Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Gannavaram airport was upgraded to an international airport, prompting the then TDP government to acquire land for the expansion of the runway. This led to the displacement of 662 farmers from five villages around the airport, who had to surrender nearly 800 acres of land to the government. Many of these farmers lost not only their land but also their homes. The land was acquired after Vallabhaneni Vamsi, who promised to be an MLA at the time, convinced the affected farmers to hand over their land to the government.
