Vijayawada: BJP AP Chief, Purandeswari on Wednesday accused the Jagan government of driving Andhra Pradesh into heavy indebtedness. Addressing the press meeting, she alleged that apart from official loans, the state is burdened with a significant amount of informal loans. Purandeswari highlighted that the government took loans amounting to more than Rs. 8 thousand crores based on future income guarantees from alcohol sales. During the four-year rule of the YCP government, Purandeswari claimed that Andhra Pradesh incurred debts of Rs. 4,74,315 crores through various means, in addition to the loans taken from the Reserve Bank. She emphasized that the state has to pay Rs. 50 thousand crores in interest on these debts, raising concerns about how development projects can be pursued when a significant portion of the state's income goes towards interest payments.
