Hyderabad: Telangana University Vice-Chancellor, Dachepalli Ravinder Gupta, was apprehended on Saturday by the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) following allegations of bribery. The arrest took place after Gupta was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a representative of an educational society. It is reported that the bribe was demanded in exchange for allocating an examination centre to the college. The senior officials of the ACB have stated that Gupta was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from D Shankar, the President of Sri Shirdi Sai Educational Society. According to an ACB official, the money was handed over to Gupta at his residence in Hyderabad and was subsequently recovered from a cupboard in his presence. The anti-corruption bureau is currently investigating allegations of Gupta's involvement in misappropriating funds amounting to over Rs 10 crore. He has been accused of purchasing furniture, computers, and other equipment with inflated bills.
