The Union Law Ministry has stated that the Andhra Pradesh government and the state's high court must jointly make a decision regarding the proposal to relocate the high court to Kurnool. This information was shared by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in response to a query raised by Telugu Desam Party member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar during a session of the Rajya Sabha. In his written response, the Minister cited Article 214 of the Constitution and the Reorganisation Act of 2014, which stipulates that the AP High Court must be located in Amaravati. Previously, the Hyderabad High Court served as the joint high court of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. As per the bifurcation act, the relocation of the high court can only occur after consultation with the Andhra Pradesh government.
