Anganwadi workers stage protest in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: In a state-wide protest demanding the implementation of CM Jagan Mohan Reddy's election promises, hundreds of Anganwadi workers, along with Mid-day meal workers took to the streets in Vijayawada. Despite their peaceful intentions, the police detained at least 1500 Anganwadi workers, as well as various political party leaders who had planned to participate in a sit-in at the Assembly against GO No.1.
The workers had gathered in Vijayawada to raise their voices against the government's failure to fulfil its promises made during the elections. They had been seeking better wages and working conditions, as well as more resources to carry out their duties. However, the authorities imposed restrictions on the protest, leading to the arrests.
The police action has been met with criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the government's attitude towards the workers' demands. The detained workers are currently being held in police stations.
