Amaravathi Railway Line Project Moves Forward with Tenders Expected Soon

The Indian Railways is preparing to invite tenders shortly for the construction of the Errupalem–Namburu railway line, which will pass through the Andhra Pradesh capital, Amaravathi. According to sources, land acquisition has progressed to a considerable extent, paving the way for the project to move forward.

In the initial phase, tenders are expected to be issued within the next two months for the construction of a 27-kilometre railway track and a 3.2-kilometre bridge across the Krishna River. The new railway line will begin from Errupalem in Khammam district on the Kazipet–Vijayawada route and pass through Amaravathi before merging with the Vijayawada–Guntur line at Namburu in Guntur district. The total length of the proposed railway line is 57 kilometres.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the 27-kilometre stretch will cost approximately ₹450 crore, while the construction of the bridge over the Krishna River is expected to cost around ₹350 crore. The Ministry of Railways has set a target to complete the project within three years. However, N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Ministry to complete the railway track construction within two years. The Ministry of Railways stated that while the track construction may be completed in two years, the bridge over the Krishna River is expected to take three years to finish.

Additionally, tenders will also be invited for the construction of the Amaravathi Railway Station. However, there is a possibility of delays in the 26.5-kilometre segment between Amaravathi and Namburu. This is due to objections from farmers in the Tadikonda region under the jurisdiction of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), who are reluctant to part with their lands for the railway line.
