AP keen to provide sites for Russian N-reactors

Hyderabad, March 8: The government of Andhra Pradesh is said to have shown interest in allocating sites for Russian atomic power reactors, according to official sources here. The response from Andhra Pradesh has come as a respite for the central government. With NDA's alliance partner TDP showing interest in the N-project, the central government has found some respite. Since water is an vital element for the setting up of a nuclear power plant, the Department of Atomic Energy is looking for a site on the coast and not in the hinterland. Earlier, DAE had ruled out Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu as all these states already have two or more nuclear sites. The central government is believed to have marked Kovvada as a possible site to build the nuclear plant in AP.
