KCR says govt ready to discuss on social security pension issue
Hyderabad, Nov 19: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday announced that the state assembly will take up a short notice discussion on social security pensions for old age people on Thursday.
The Chief Minister made this announcement after intervening in a debate raised by the Congress legislators who stalled the procdedings of the legislative assembly on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Congress disrupted the assembly on reports that aged people were committing suicide as they were not getting pensions thanks to a new government policy.
Soon after the House commenced proceedings, Congress MLAs led by T Jeevan Reddy surrounded the Speaker's podium showing newspaper clippings that highlighted the suicides of aged people.
Repeated assurances of the Speaker and Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao that the government will table a statement on the issue failed to convince the Congress MLAs.
The Speaker then adjourned the House for an hour, after which the Chandrasekhar Rao made the statement.
