Both TDP, Cong. Regimes left farmers in lurch: Eatala
Hyderabad, Sept.29: Targeting TDP and Congress parties, Finance Minister Etela Rajender has alleged that both the parties did nothing to the State.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Etela lashed out at AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu saying that the latter never bothered about welfare of farmers. Chandrababu has the dubious credit of ordering firing at farmers when they sought power supply. Chandrababu Naidu, who chanted Hi-Tech City mantra, never concentrated on farmers, he alleged.
Targeting Congress party, Etela alleged then Chief Minister late Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy had taken up Jalayagnam but did not give water to even five lakh acres. He alleged that the YSR regime has the credit of looting crores of rupees in the name of Jalayagnam. As proposed, the Mid-Maner reservoir should have been completed before February 2009, he said and made it clear that the TRS government will complete all the pending projects on war-footing.
He said that the TRS government spent Rs.675 crores for Mid-Maner project in two years whereas the previous Congress government spent mere Rs.836 crores in eight years. The TRS government constructed the project to face huge floods comes to the project. He explained that the reservoir overflowed as 4.4 TMCFT of water reached to the project, which has the 3 TMCFT of capacity. The government shifted the people, who affected with the floods, to safer places in time. The government took all precautionary measures too see that there was no loss of assets and lives, he said reminding that he reviewed the situation while staying at Dam even at mid night. The water never flowed in Kakathiya Canal but the TRS government spent Rs. 130 to give face-lift to the Kakatiya Canal. The opposition parties were feared of no future if the projects were completed, he claimed.
The Minister revealed that 50 percent of the tanks were filled now and the remaining tanks will be filled with Godavari water. The opposition parties were indulging in mud-slinging politics; he alleged making it clear that the TRS government’s aim was to give water to the fields. The government was supplying nine hour power to the farmers; he said and asked the opposition parties not to play games with the lives of the farmers.
