Now onion brings tears to farmers
Kurnool, Oct 15: Onion farmers in Kurnool district took to streets demanding remunerative price to their produce.
The prices of onion hovered between Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,700 per quintal in Kurnool market yard till yesterday, but today the price suddenly dropped to Rs 300.
A month ago, Onion prices skyrocketed and government set up special counters for sale of onions. As the prices suddenly dropped, farmers pulled up Kurnool market yard officials and traders.
The staged a rasta roko and traffic went haywire for an hour. Shortage of warehouses, cold storages, lack of proper market intervention measures on behalf of government and poor planning are creating problems to farmers.
