Renowned cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is gearing up for a new role. The Election Commission of India will name him a 'National Icon' this Wednesday. His main task? To encourage more people, especially the youth, to vote in upcoming elections. An agreement will be signed with Tendulkar to spread the word about the importance of voting for the next three years. The Election Commission hopes that Tendulkar's huge influence among young Indians will inspire more to show up at the polls, particularly for the 2024 general elections. The move is part of the Election Commission's efforts to tackle the low interest in voting among city dwellers and young folks. And Sachin isn't the first famous face to take on this role. Last year, actor Pankaj Tripathi was also named a 'National Icon'. Other big names like MS Dhoni, Aamir Khan, and Mary Kom have previously been chosen for this honor during the 2019 elections.
