Heavy monsoon rains wreaked havoc across northern India, resulting in some fatalities due to landslides and other weather-related incidents. Numerous cities, including the capital, Delhi, grappled with the consequences of swollen rivers such as the Yamuna, which exceeded their banks and flooded nearby areas. Record-breaking rainfall overwhelmed infrastructural defenses across the region, with many roads and residential neighborhoods submerged in knee-deep water. The inadequate response of the civic system was laid bare in the face of the deluge. Images revealing the extent of the devastation quickly circulated online. Social media platforms were flooded with chilling visuals of vehicles being carried away by the floodwaters, the murky tide inundating homes, temples, and other structures situated along riverbanks, and evidence of severe landslides. The hardest-hit regions were Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Kulu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi, among others.
