Praveen Sood, an IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre of the 1986 batch, has been appointed as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years. Sood currently serves as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Karnataka and brings a vast amount of experience and expertise to his new role. The high-level selection committee, consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, and the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, unanimously agreed on Sood's appointment during a meeting held on Saturday evening. He will succeed Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose tenure as the current CBI Director is set to conclude on May 25.
