Hyderabad: A man who was arrested in connection with a theft case died under suspicious circumstances in police custody in Hyderabad on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Chiranjeevi, an auto-rickshaw driver. According to the police, Chiranjeevi was picked up from his house in Singareni Colony, LB Nagar and was taken to Tukaram Gate Police Station for questioning in connection with a theft case. However, his family members alleged that the police did not reveal the name of the police station where he was being taken. A few hours after being taken into custody, Chiranjeevi died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. The police claim that the man developed fits and died, but his family members allege that he died due to police torture. The family has also claimed that the body bore injury marks on the head, face and limbs, which suggests that he was tortured in police custody. The incident has raised concerns about police brutality
