According to a written reply by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, V.K. Singh, the airports in Vijayawada, Tirupati, and Rajamahendravaram in the state of Andhra Pradesh will soon be privatized. The move is part of a larger plan to lease out a total of 25 airports across India, with the aim of generating a revenue of Rs 10,782 crore by the year 2025. When asked about the decision to privatize these airports, Singh stated that it will depend on several factors such as flight movement to these airports, market conditions, investor interest, and the terms of transaction. The government hopes that this move will lead to increased efficiency and improved services for passengers.
