Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to appear before a sessions court in Surat, Gujarat on Monday to file an appeal against his conviction in a criminal defamation case. Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by a metropolitan court for his comments on the "Modi surname" during the 2019 general elections. According to the sources, he will challenge this order in the sessions court, accompanied by senior Congress leaders. Rahul Gandhi was granted bail by the court which also suspended his sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal to a higher court. His disqualification from the Lok Sabha followed his conviction, barring him from contesting elections for eight years.
