P. Chidambaram, a senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister, was chastised by a group of Congress-affiliated lawyers within the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday. Chidambaram, who is also a prominent lawyer, appeared in court to fight a lawsuit against his party on behalf of the state's Trinamool Congress government. Chidambaram appeared in response to a case filed by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the state Congress President and party leader in the Lok Sabha, challenging the West Bengal government's diluting of its 47 percent stake in Metro Dairy to private business Keventer Agro Ltd. A mob of Congress-affiliated lawyers encircled Chidambaram as he exited the high court and began yelling "Go Back" chants. Protesters have waved black flags. Chidambaram's security escorted him to his vehicle, and he drove away quietly.
