The long-awaited request for UNESCO recognition of the old Lepakshi temple in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district as a World Heritage Site got pace when the Director of World Heritage announced measures to add it to the tentative list of heritage sites in an official letter. Jasti Veeranjaneyulu, National Secretary of the All India Panchayat Parishat in New Delhi and Chairman of the Amaravathi Development Authority, has expressed his delight at Lepakshi's inclusion in the provisional list of World Heritage Tags. Officials from the UNESCO Heritage Organization will visit to Lepakshi to complete the remaining formalities.
