Sotheby's in New York will auction two reconstructed rare dinosaur skeletons, including a plesiosaur associated with the Loch Ness monster. The plesiosaur, nicknamed "Nessie," was discovered in Gloucestershire in 1990 and is estimated to be around 75% complete. Sources said that it is expected to generate revenue between $600,000 and $800,000. The plesiosaur's elongated neck has led to its association with the Loch Ness monster in popular culture, although scientists have debunked the connection. Also up for auction is a pteranodon skeleton with a six-meter wingspan, valued between $4 and $6 million. The auction will take place on July 26 as part of Sotheby's "Natural History" sale.
