In what is being termed as the most catastrophic accident in the annals of Indian Railways, a deadly collision involving three trains has occurred in Balasore, Odisha, resulting in significant casualties, including those on the Coromandel Express. The disastrous incident, which unfolded on Friday, has claimed at least 290 lives so far. The collision involved the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express and the Yeshwantpur-Howrah Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express. Among the victims were passengers hailing from Andhra Pradesh, prompting the state government to step in and conduct inquiries about the state's passengers involved in the accident. Preliminary reports reveal that 52 reserved passengers embarked on the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express at various stations. These included 18 passengers from Tirupati station, 12 from Chirala, two each from Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Rajahmundry, and Bapatla, four from Vijayawada, and eight from Renigunta station. As the investigation continues, official confirmation is still awaited regarding the total number of deceased and injured passengers.
