A research team in New Mexico is taking an innovative approach to studying drone flight patterns. They are converting taxidermic birds into drones, according to a report by Reuters. The project is being led by Mostafa Hassanalian, a mechanical engineering professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro. Hassanalian explained that the team decided to explore the use of deceased birds after mechanical bird drones proved to be ineffective. "We came up with this idea that we can use...dead birds and make them (into) a drone," Hassanalian, who has extensive experience in drone research, told Reuters. The process involves attaching the necessary drone components, such as rotors and motors, to the bird's body. The wings are then programmed to move like those of a live bird, allowing the drone to fly. According to Hassanalian, the advantage of this approach is that everything needed for flight is already present in the bird's body. The team is essentially
