The Telangana government has made it clear that not all shops and establishments are permitted to operate 24×7, and only those that have received approval from the state government are allowed to do so. This clarification comes after the issuance of a Government Order (GO) on April 4th, which granted an exemption to shops and establishments to operate 24×7 in the state. However, the government has stated that this permit comes with certain limitations. As per the press note issued by the Labour, Employment Training, and Factories department, the exemption granted by GO no: 4, which offers relief from section 7 (opening and closing hours) of the Telangana Shops And Establishments Act, 1988, is not automatically applicable to all establishments in the state. The note further clarifies that only shops and establishments, as defined in section 2 (21) of the Telangana Shops & Establishments Act, 1988, can operate 24×7, provided they have obtained permission from the government to do so.
