Hyderabad: PV Satheesh, a prominent advocate for sustainable agriculture and founder of Deccan Development Society, passed away on Sunday at the age of 77. Satheesh was known for his tireless efforts in promoting the cultivation of millets and building an alternative, ecologically-sustainable food system. He was particularly passionate about empowering poor and marginalized women farmers, working to ensure their access and control over land and crops. His work earned him the title of 'Millet Man' and he was instrumental in promoting large-scale millet cultivation and organic agriculture by women's groups. He also played a pivotal role in the establishment of a local public distribution system that was entirely run by women farmers and was based solely on millet crops. Satheesh's contributions have not only helped to promote sustainable agriculture but also to empower women farmers and marginalized communities. His final rites will be held at Pastapur on Monday, where he will be remembered as a visionary leader and an inspiration
