Dr. D Preethi, a PG medical student from Kakatiya Medical College, was rushed to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Warangal after allegedly attempting suicide. Tragically, after battling for her life for five days, she was declared dead on February 26, 2023, at 9.10 pm, despite the continuous efforts of a multidisciplinary team of specialist doctors. According to a bulletin issued by Dr. Satyanrayana, the Medical Superintendent at NIMS, Dr. Preethi could not be saved. The news has led to mild tension at NIMS, where police have been deployed to prevent any trouble as some groups staged a protest in the evening, demanding that the state government provide ex-gratia to the family of the deceased. The Warangal police have arrested Dr. M. A. Saif, a second-year post-graduate medical student of KMC, in connection with the case. Following the court's order of his 14-day judicial remand, the accused has been shifted to Khammam jail.
