Hyderabad: The session of the Formula E race took an unexpected turn when championship leader Wehrlein of the Porsche Formula E team suffered a severe crash at Turn 18. Initially, the crash raised concerns about the track conditions. However, further investigation revealed that a mechanical failure was the cause of the accident. According to a track official, "The throttle was stuck open, which led to the crash. Dustiness is typical at the start of street circuits. If slick tires were used, grip would have been a challenge, but the (Hankook) tires have a much harder compound." The 2.835-km street circuit, located around Hussain Sagar lake and built by NTR Gardens, will host India's first elite electric motor racing event and the country's first top-tier FIA World Championship motorsport event in a decade.
