Veteran Singer Vani Jayaram passes away at the age of 78
The Telugu film industry has suffered another loss with the passing of veteran film playback singer, Vani Jayaram. On Saturday morning, the 78-year-old passed away at her residence in Chennai. Born as Kalaivani on November 30, 1945, in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Vani was the fifth of six sisters born to Duraiswamy and Padmavathi.
Vani had a passion for music from a young age and received recognition for her talent after performing in a concert at the age of eight. She honed her skills in Carnatic music and went on to receive a degree from Queen Mary College, Madras. Throughout her illustrious career, she sang more than 20,000 songs in 14 different languages, working with renowned music directors such as KV Mahadevan, MS Viswanathan, Ilayaraja, Pendyala, Chakraborty, and Saluri Rajeswara Rao.
Her exceptional talent was acknowledged by the industry as she received three national awards and was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan award by the central government for her services to music. Unfortunately, Vani passed away before she could receive the award.
