Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former member of the Rajya Sabha, recently left the Congress and announced the formation of a new national party. Azad, who spent more than 50 years as a member of the Congress party, claimed that he just left the Congress party and that his ideologies—which are still based on Nehru, Gandhi, and the Congress party—haven't changed from what he learned in school. The main Azad supporters in Jammu and Kashmir said they were pleased to hear that their leader was returning to the state because he previously served as the Chief Minister. According to Azad's supporters, after uniting Jammu and Kashmir, he will demand the state receive Special Category Status in his party's agenda.
