The portrayal of the Hindu saint Annamayya in Tollywood playback singer Sravana Bhargavi's most recent music video, Okapari Kokapari, has generated controversy. The bone of contention in the video is Bhargavi's glitzy appearance in a devotional song while wearing a saree. Saint Annamayya's successors as well as followers of Lord Venkateswara expressed displeasure with the way the music video was produced. The singer has recently been under fire from BJP woman leader Swetha Reddy, who claims that she twisted the meaning of Annamayya Keerthana and that her album is nothing short of absurd. The BJP leader criticised the singer's persona while advising her to create a video that is appropriate for her given the situation she is in. She is also reported to have spoken about her divorce rumours and despair. Make a video song about yourself if you desire fame, advised Swetha Reddy. The journalist Swetha Reddy was confident that Venkateswara Swamy would take down her song from YouTube.
