In the movie that she wrote and directed, the actress portrays the late former prime leader Indira Gandhi. The title of the film, 'Emergency,' suggests that it is all about the internal emergency that Indira Gandhi declared on June 25, 1975. One can see Kangana assuming the late PM's appearance in the teaser video, complete with eyeglasses and her crisp white cotton saree. In 'Thalaivi,' Kangana portrayed the late former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalitha, and in 'Manikarnika,' she portrayed Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
