Shashi Tharoor on Exit Rumors: “I Have Alternative Options”

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has responded to speculation regarding his potential exit from the party. Tharoor stated that he remains with the Congress for now but asserted that if the party decides not to utilize his services, he has alternative options.

Recently, Tharoor praised both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Left government in Kerala, triggering discussions within the Congress party. His remarks led to speculation that he might be considering switching parties. Addressing these rumors, Tharoor clarified that his comments were made in the broader interest of the nation and the state, rather than being solely aligned with party interests. He emphasized that he does not believe in restricting himself to narrow political considerations.

With Kerala's Assembly elections scheduled for next year, Tharoor urged the Congress to focus on expanding its reach by attracting new voters. He warned that failure to do so could result in the party remaining in the opposition for a third consecutive term.

Tharoor also stated that he considers himself a suitable candidate for the Chief Minister’s position in Kerala, adding that several opinion polls have indicated the same.
