Rare Gift to Lord Venkateswara from Mysore Royal Family

Rare Gift to Lord Venkateswara from Mysore Royal Family
In a significant act of devotion, Mysore Rajamata Pramoda Devi on Monday presented two massive silver Akhanda Deepams as an offering to Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, revered as the deity of Kaliyuga. This gesture carries historical significance, as nearly three centuries ago, a then Maharaja of Mysore had similarly donated Akhanda Deepams to the temple. The continuation of this legacy by the same royal lineage has garnered special attention.

These Akhanda Deepams will be used to remain perpetually lit within the sanctum sanctorum of the Tirumala temple. Considered highly sacred within the temple tradition, each deepam donated by Rajamata Pramoda Devi weighs approximately 50 kilograms. It is reported that nearly 100 kilograms of silver were used in crafting the two lamps. The Mysore royal family has long been devoted followers of Lord Venkateswara, historically offering various gifts to the temple.

Rajamata Pramoda Devi handed over the silver Akhanda Deepams to the officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) during a formal ceremony held at the Ranganayakula Mandapam within the Tirumala temple premises. TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu and Additional Executive Officer C.H. Venkayya Chowdary were present during the occasion. In their presence, the Rajamata offered the rare donation to the deity. This historic recurrence of Akhanda Deepams from the Mysore royal family to the Tirumala temple after centuries has stirred joy and reverence among devotees.
