'Lingaa' case: SC stays HC order directing Rockline Venkatesh to deposit Rs 10 cr
New Delhi, Jan 22: The Supreme Court of India is reported to have stayed on Thursday an order of the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court directing the producer of the Tamil film 'Lingaa', Rockline Venkatesh, to deposit Rs 10 crore as guarantee to ensure the release of the film on December 12, 2014. The HC is reported to have directed the producer to deposit the amount since a petitioner had claimed that 'Lingaa’ was based on his story titled 'Mullai Vanam 999’. Rockline Venkatesh is said to have appealed to the SC saying that the HC is said to have "entertained a civil dispute through a writ petition, which was admittedly without its jurisdiction".
